The Nature of Time
FP is a collective of separate groups working together to create a united work, produced by Chris Strouth. The sound can be described as experimental, electronic, acoustic, quiet, loud, and any number of other contradictory adjectives. Suffice it to say that it isn’t easily categorized, though you might put it into the modern Electronic bin somewhere near Amon Tobin’s “Supermodified” but not too far from Main, Cluster or Bomb 20.
The record is a seamless blend, to be enjoyed as an experience in and of itself. The record is about time. Time as allegory, time has measurement, time as distance, and emotion. Time as it is, beyond just the simple act of counting the moments between events.
This is the second Future Perfect release (the first is Music for Listening). They are based in Minneapolis and are under the direction of Chris Strouth (UltraModern) The record features the talents of A Most Happy Sound (L. Stafford, C.Strouth) Zaftig, Big Daddy, Jr. & the Spook, Christian Erickson(Astronaut Wife, Passage) Alpha 61(Paul Horn, Jason Shapiro) TS & Fillmore Diggs, The Radar Threat, DJ Drone (David Jarros) and Podling. They represent the finest Electronic music in Minneapolis, if not the Midwest.
But beyond that, this is just a different sort of record from anything else that you’ll hear this year. And no, we aren’t overstating it. Listen for yourself.
An abstraction of the moment, an elongation of a memory. a second of happiness. There’s a beginning, there’s an end and in between is where all the action is. Life is a series of transitions. Think of this record as allegories and abstractions of time. eleven pieces forming a whole. one piece envelopes another folding back into itself. whole universes of music living within each other.
