Pastiche
Pastiche
Lake Charles, LA
A huge band sound from only four players? Or just some of the happiest music you are likely to hear outside the circus tent?
Pastiche is a mixed ensemble of four musicians who perform contemporary chamber music, featuring lively interpretations of pieces by various composers from the 1930's to the 1990's, as well as commissioned works written especially for them. This group exhibits fascinating and creative instrumental interplay between its four members, with music for unusual instrumental combinations as well as standard works. With clarinet, trumpet, piano, and percussion as their primary instrumentation, maybe they don't have much choice!
Pastiche was founded in Louisiana in 1995. The ensemble tours nationally, playing in both concert and educational formats, and receiving excellent reviews wherever they perform. Audiences have been impressed with music performed with "technical precision," while presented with "joy and panache." The group consists of David Scott, trumpet; Jan F. Scott, clarinet; Terry Mahady, percussion; and Fred Sahlmann, piano. All four are on the faculty of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
